Welcome to the home of the North Warwickshire Catenian circle 111

North Warwicks Circle 111, meets monthly at the Nuthurst Grange Country Hotel, Hockley Heath, Solihull, B94 5NL.    After a brief meeting, where we discuss the business of the circle,  we enjoy a dinner and after dinner talks and other entertainment.  We are a society of Catholic men but approximately six times a year, we are joined by our wives for dinner.

We do not need much of an excuse to get together and enjoy ourselves. In December, we have a Christmas party with entertainment; in January we celebrate Burns night and St. Patricks' in March.  Through out the year, we organise many social events include nights out at local restaurants, theatre trips and day trips.

The name Catenian is derived from the word ‘Catena’ which means ‘chain’.  Worldwide, there are over 320 individual groups or ‘circles’ and we like to think that each circle is linked together in a strong chain with a common bond of faith and friendship.

Circles are grouped geographically into Provinces in the UK and there are 19 Provinces.  North Warwickshire is part of Province 6, covering the Midlands area with twenty-one other circles.

Although we are a global organisation, the circle is the foundation and social events are mostly organised through the circle and each circle has it’s own unique way of doing things.

The Catenians is all about socialising with fellow Catholics and providing support for each other.  It is first and foremost a social group

The Catenians are NOT

·A secret society – although we perhaps could do better at publicising what we do!

·A Catholic pressure group

·Affiliated to nor do we support any political party

·A fund-raising organisation, except for special reasons

Membership

Membership is open to all practising Catholic men, including ordained Deacons and we welcome people from any walk of life or occupation.

We meet socially at least once a month.  We encourage and wherever possible, help each other and our families.

Although, membership of the Association is male, when someone joins the Catenians, in a very real sense, their wife and family also join because there are more social events involving the family than there are male only meetings.

We like to support our members when they are ill or need help. We have an extensive .......

The Catenians is a group of Catholic men which was founded in 1908 in Manchester. Today there are over 8000 members worldwide with circles in the UK, Ireland, Australia, India, Bangladesh, Malta, South Africa,  Zambia & Zimbabwe.   The majority of members are in the UK and Australia, but membership is growing in India & Bangladesh where there is a strong Catholic minority, particularly in Goa (Western India) & Dhaka (Bangladesh).

If you would like to find out more, we recommend that you join us at one of the meetings and you can see for yourself if it’s for you. Please contact us to find out more.

School Initiative

We support our youth in a variety of ways for example, helping with funds when they volunteer to help on Pilgramages to Lourdes to help in various projects overseas. We also help to organise a Public Speaking Competition because we feel this encourages the next generation to be confident enough to debate their views in public.

Together with our neighbouring Solihull Circle, we launched The Catenian Secondary Schools Initiative in 2013, to help support leavers prepare for the next phase of their lives. We are working with three local schools and we provide practical careers advice, interview experience and most of all encouragement. But it’s all voluntary and members only do what they can, when they can.
